Workshops for 5-7yr olds
Remember the most exciting thing you ever learnt? That lesson or experience that blew your mind? The thing you would tell to anyone who would listen?
These are the kinds of experiences we create for your children.
What to expect:
In our curriculum based activities we use hands on craft activities to incorporate creative thinking, problem solving, teamwork and innovation within a playful and inclusive environment. This provides the ideal platform for children to explore a range of topics through group work and independent learning.
Reflection is an integral part of our workshops. It gives young learners the chance to discuss their accomplishments, reinforcing the new skills they have learnt and leaving each child with a real sense of pride which is invaluable to their self-confidence.
We can advise you on the most suitable activities for your group size and age, we will work with you to find a day and time that suits everyone.
We visit schools across Sussex and further afield, bringing with us all the equipment and instruction needed.

Felt Wall Hanging
SCIENCE + GEOGRAPHY - HABITATS, LOCAL SURROUNDINGS.
In this collaborative workshop the children will work together to transform a raw material, sheep's wool, into a wall hanging using traditional felting techniques. The workshop will explore and investigate their surroundings by discussing habitats and the importance of our environment.
As well as learning the practical skills of felt making we aim to challenge the children and encourage them to work together and recognise their own talents as well as others. The workshop will end with a reflection on what they have achieved and enjoyed.
SHELTERS, HABITATS AND SPACES OUTDOORS
Think Grand Designs for creepy-crawlies. This workshop will give your children the opportunity to explore their surroundings and what may live there. We’ll be hunting for where bugs live and why they like to live there. Hopefully we’ll find some woodlice to look at and play with!
Once we've gathered as much information about the kinds of places our new friends like to live, we'll set about making them a miniature city / adventure playground using a collection of natural and recycled objects.
HISTORY, EARLY FARMING AND FOOD PRODUCTION
Harvest, Process and Eat: We'll open with a dynamic collection of poems, songs and discussions, figuring out what conditions plants need to flourish. They'll then be taken on a time travelling journey transforming and grinding dried wheat into flour which they'll make into dough and shape into bread sculptures. While the bread is baking, they will work together to make butter from scratch.
The session resolves with a rather delicious reflective chat about where food comes from while we indulge in warm, homemade bread and butter.
ART + DESIGN - DRAWING + EXPLORING MATERIALS. CAN BE EASILY ADAPTED TO SUIT YOUR CURRENT TOPIC
Each child will be provided with a plain item, choose from bags, t-shirts, aprons, wall-hangings and more. They will then explore the screen printing technique on paper, before creating a repeating design on their item. The children will be encouraged to explore the materials and to use their imaginations to create unique finished products.
We guarantee every child will end the workshop with their own printed piece that they can use and feel proud of. This workshop has also been used by schools to create additional items to sell as fundraising for the schools / pupils.
KINETIC WILLOW CREATURES
SCIENCE - SKELETONS, MUSCLES, PROTECTION AND MOVEMENT
A two part workshop consisting of two ½ day sessions.
Willow work creates the opportunity to make large scale structures. It is a versatile material that children can easily manipulate to make impressive sculptures, great for discussing how skeletons and structures allow for movement.
Day 1 - making structure and papering: After a short demonstration the children will be split into groups and begin to make their section of the structure, which will be attached together to create a jointed creature
Day 2 - painting and playing: Once dry the animals can be painted and decorated- either with our guidance, or by the teacher as part of normal lessons.
Within this workshop the children will work as a team on collaborating their ideas and assisting each other to create an animal. Transforming single lengths of willow into a three dimensional structure offers space for problem solving and creative thinking.
HISTORY UNDER OUR FEET
HISTORY, ARCHEOLOGY + CERAMICS - TAILORED TO THE HISTORICAL PERIOD YOU ARE EXPLORING
This is Hazel's favourite activity, as it combines all her favourite things! During the all day workshop we'll learn basic archaeological techniques - using quadrants, recording finds and how doing this helps us work out what may have happened on our site in the past.
Children will work in groups to uncover the pre-buried fragments of pottery. We’ll then begin trying to work out what the pieces we’ve found may have been, and what they could have been used for. We’ll combine research, drawing and 3D thinking in clay to recreate the objects.
We will provide a full demo on how create functional vessels with clay, as well as arranging firing and glazing of the pieces.
